Urban Harvest’s Bayou City Farmers Market will hold its fifth annual Tomato Fest from 8 a.m.-noon June 6 at 3000 Richmond at Eastside, between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway, in the back parking lot.
Tomato Fest celebrates the height of the tomato season in southeast Texas. Vendors will have a variety of tomatoes, including Sweet Million, Sweet Chelsea, Juliette, Carmelo, Champion, Yellow Pear, Sungold, Green Zebra, Brandy Wine and more. A panel of judges will taste test and vote for the best tomato at the market.
For this year’s event, Urban Harvest is partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture on a Tomato Cook-Off, pairing Houston celebrity chefs with notable local foodies to create unique tomato-inspired dishes for market shoppers.
Urban Harvest’s own tomato doctor will be on-hand to answer tomato-growing questions.
