Candidates interested in running for a vacant seat on the Bellaire City Council can file for candidacy starting on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
The City of Bellaire will hold a special election on May 14 to fill Councilmember Will Hickman’s number one position.
Hickman recently announced his resignation from city council after learning that he would be relocating for work.
Hickman is a patent attorney for Shell and will be relocating temporarily to Calgary, Canada in March. He plans on coming back to Bellaire once the assignment is complete.
Registered voters will elect a council member to serve from May 23 to Jan. 6, 2014.
To qualify as a candidate to serve as mayor or a council member, applicants need to be at least 21 years of age, be a resident of and resided in Bellaire for at least 12 months prior to the election and be qualified to vote in the city.
Candidate filing notebooks may be picked up in the city clerk’s office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays.
