First runoff results: Witt leads Ehlers in Bellaire, Deigaard out in front to retain HISD board seat

December 11, 2021 by Charlotte Aguilar

Ehlers (L) and Witt are in a runoff for the Position 5 Bellaire council seat.

With early ballots counted in runoffs Saturday (Dec. 11), Brian Witt is outpolling Andréa Ehlers by 119 votes for Bellaire City Council Position 5, and incumbent Houston ISD District V Trustee Sue Deigaard — a southwest Houston resident who represents Bellaire and West University — holds a comfortable lead over challenger Caroline Walter of West U with 67 percent of the first votes counted.

Still to be counted are ballots cast today, and polling places at Bellaire and West University Place City Halls had heavy turnouts with long lines at times.

Deigaard (L) and Walter (R) are vying for the HISD District V board seat.

Elsewhere in the HISD board contests, three of Deigaard’s fellow board members appear to be in much tougher battles to retain their seats, with Elizabeth Santos, Anne Sung and Holly Flynn Vilaseca each separated by a handful of votes from their challengers.
