Houston Independent School District administrators cancelled TAKS testing today because of the bad weather and potential for flooding. Many schools in HISD’s west region will open hours later than normal. The National Weather Service has Houston on a flood watch through the afternoon, and more rain could be coming.
Cars were having trouble on Weslayan and Bissonnet as early as 8:30 p.m. Monday night, and several stalled out on South Rice Avenue heading north towards Westpark.
Severe thunderstorms last night stalled over west Houston, pouring 10 inches or more in some areas. As a result, the weather service issued a flash-flood warning for all of Harris County, northern Fort Bend County, southern Waller County, Southern Montgomery County until 6:30 a.m. But at 6:30, the weather service extended the flood warning until 9:30 a.m., adding that flooding has begun in small streams. The warning has since been extended through the afternoon.
The flood warning area includes the Medical Center, Reliant Park, Minute Maid Park, Memorial, Hermann Park, The Galleria, Bush-Intercontinental Airport, Addicks, West University Place, Sugar Land, Stafford, Richmond, Rosenberg, Mission Bend and Fulshear.
