Former Bellaire Chief Loftin to be laid to rest

May 9, 2016 by Charlotte Aguilar Leave a Comment

Funeral services are being held today (Monday, May 9) in west Houston for Jerry Loftin, who served as Bellaire’s police chief for nearly two decades. He died last Wednesday at the age of 82.
Internment will be at Forest Park Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road.
Current Police Chief Byron Holloway visited with Loftin, who hired him, shortly before his death. “As a young officer, I did not understand many of his decisions or actions, but after being promoted to chief myself, I now clearly understand,” Holloway said. He said J.P. Court, who was Bellaire’s police chief in 1960, was also there to see Loftin at the end.
Loftin and his wife of 50 years, Roena — Bellaire’s longtime city secretary — retired to Pearland in 1996. Bellaire named a park in Bellaire Town Square in recognition of their years of service to the city.
