Former Bellaire police chief Loftin dies

May 4, 2016 by Charlotte Aguilar Leave a Comment

Jerry Loftin — who served Bellaire as police chief for nearly two decades — has died, according to a source in city government. He was 82.
Loftin joined the Bellaire Police Department in 1965 after starting his career in Montgomery, Ala. He was named chief in 1977 and served in the post until 1996. From 1986-1987, he was president of the Texas Police Chiefs Association.
He and his wife, Roena, who was longtime city secretary, moved to Pearland after their retirement. Loftin Park, part of Bellaire Town Square, was named in their honor in recognition of their service to the community.
