As of close of business on Wednesday, the Harris County Clerk’s Office has mailed more than 36,000 ballots to voters for the July 31 Republican and Democratic Primary Runoff Elections.
County Clerk and Chief Elections Officer Stan Stanart said the number of ballots mailed for the runoff is already greater than those mailed for the May 29 primaries.
The military and overseas ballots were sent out on Friday, June 15.
Mail ballots by the tens of thousands have been pouring out of the county clerk’s office with more than 600 already returned by early voters in Harris County, according to Stanart.
“The runoff election day is July 31, 2012 and if you qualify to vote by mail you have until July 24 for your request to be received in the county clerk’s office”, Stanart said.
As of yesterday, more than 23,500 ballots have been mailed for the Republican primary runoff and more than 12,400 Democratic ballots have been mailed.
“Even if you did not vote in the primary election and are registered to vote by July 2, you can vote in the primary runoff election,” Stanart added.
For those who voted in one of the May 29 primaries, Stanart stressed that you can only vote in the runoff election of the same party in which you voted in the primary.
Early voting in person for the primary runoff election is July 23 through July 27.
In Texas a registered voter may vote early by-mail if the voter meets one of the following criteria:
- Away from the county of residence on election day and during the early voting period;
- Sick or disabled;
- 65 years of age or older on election day; or
- Confined in jail, but eligible to vote.
