Houston area boys and girls, ages 7 to 17, will compete in the Harris County Street Olympics 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament July 15 and 16, 2010, at Fonde Community Center, 110 Sabine St.
The tournament will start at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.
The winners in the five divisions will be awarded trophies. Competitors advanced to the tournament because they are the best of the 400 Harris County girls and boys who played in the five-week, preliminary rounds at countywide neighborhood agencies’ sites.
Three-on-3 Basketball, added to the Street Olympics in 1998, is designed to teach leadership, discipline and the value of teamwork.
The Street Olympics program, which Harris County Commissioner El Franco Lee started 24 years ago, provides free educational and social activities for youth.
