It’s one down, one to go in West University’s Zoom candidate forums sponsored by Essentials Magazine/InstantNews.
The two mayoral hopefuls — incumbent Councilmember/Mayor Pro Tem Kevin Trautner and former Mayor Susan Sample — faced off Wednesday night, and tonight, starting at 7 p.m., the nine candidates for four City Council positions will answer questions posed by voters in an hour-long Zoom forum that can be accessed here:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84090654687 Meeting ID: 840 9065 4687 Passcode: 175015
Candidates are incumbents John Barnes, Lauri Lankford and Ed Sobash, former Councilmember Mardi Turner, and political newcomers Rich Beck, Melanie Bell, Shannon Carroll, John Montgomery and Sam Parikh.
Wednesday night, Sample and Trautner addressed subjects posed in 20 questions submitted by Essentials readers, ranging from flood mitigation to environmental policy and sustainability to the controversy over subsiding youth sports with city funds. While two PACs have been formed surrounding the youth sports issue and candidates are staking their campaigns to it, moderator George Boehme, publisher of Essentials/InstantNews, pointed out that only one set of questions was submitted on the matter, with environmental responsibility being the most popular topic for questioners.
