HISD Board Of Education Holds Monthy Meeting Tonight

The Board of Education of the Houston Independent School District will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight at 5 p.m. in the board auditorium of the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center , 4440 West 18th St.
Prior to the meeting, the HISD Board of Education will host a “meet and greet” reception from 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. in the lobby. Community members will be able to talk to some of the newest members of HISD, including recently hired principals and administrators.

Some of the items the board will consider include:

Adoption of Strategic Plan
The board will vote on the adoption of a recently developed long-term strategic plan that will provide guidance for the district’s future and will transform HISD with the goal to become the best school district in the nation. HISD held numerous community meetings to gather input for the plan from parents, employees, students, community groups and leaders, business partners and HISD taxpayers.

School Board Vacancy
The board will discuss and consider the options for filling the District VIII trustee seat recently vacated by Diana Davila.

Renewal Agreement with Harris County Juvenile Board for JJAEP
The board will vote on whether to allow the district to negotiate and renew an agreement with the Harris County Juvenile Board for the continuation of services of the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) for expelled students during the 2010–11 school year.
Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests for Freshmen
The board will vote on negotiating and executing an agreement with the College Board to offer preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests (PSAT/NMSQT) for all HISD high school freshmen during the 2010–11 school year. HISD would pay for all enrolled ninth-graders to take the PSAT/NMSQT.
Contract Amendment with Texas Connections Academy
The board will vote on whether to authorize the district to amend its contract with the Texas Connections Academy to add a virtual education program for students in grades 3–10 who are located in a hospital or a homebound setting.
