Parents who support the Houston Independent School District will get their day in the sun at a special event this week that will also provide information on various school programs.
HISD will hold its annual Parent Involvement Day Celebration on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Northwest Mall, 9600 Hempstead Rd. The mall is directly across the street from the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 W. 18th St.
HISD representatives will recognize parents for being committed and supporting the district, and will provide information on various programs, including the Parent Prep Academy, which offers a menu of courses such as early childhood development, parenting of adolescents, nutrition, adult basic education, and computer skills.
HISD partners will also be present to provide information on the Children’s Health Insurance Program, METRO, the Girl Scouts, Project GRAD, the Houston Public Library, and more.
“This annual event in one way of showing parents that HISD values the partnership we have in our shared commitment to reducing the drop-out rate and developing students to be college and workforce ready when they graduate from an HISD school,” said Karen B. Cotton, HISD’s Director of Parent Engagement, in a statement.
