Parents and community members are being invited learn more about the Houston Independent School District by attending the second in a series of “Learning Labs” for the community.
The session will take place Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center.
Topics to be presented include:
- Public Education and Legislative Issues
- Communicating with the Community
- How parents and community members can get involved
There will also be a question-and-answer period about current issues and challenges in public education.
Future labs are scheduled for March 10 and May 19, also at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Topics covered in future Learning Labs will be determined based on community input.
“Our first learning lab was very successful and informative,” said Caleen Allen, HISD’s general manager of strategic partnerships. “Participants had the opportunity to have an educational dialogue on a number of issues. We look forward to the January meeting as another opportunity to build on the district’s commitment to engage and discuss the importance of urban public education with parents and community members.”
Parents and community members can call 713-556-7200 to reserve a seat.
