HISD Reports Record Highs On TAKS Tests

The Houston Independent School District is reporting record highs on the TAKS test this year, with 84 percent of schools improving in passing rates in social studies and 79 percent in science, according to Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra.
Students in Texas’ largest school district improved in math and in science at every grade level on the English-language TAKS, a strong indication that HISD’s emphasis on improving math and science instruction is working, Saavedra said
All totaled, 20 HISD schools had 100 percent of students pass at least one portion of the test. It was the third straight year of good progress at HISD, according to HISD representatives.
“We’re very proud that so many schools had 100 percent of students passing portions of the TAKS test, and we’re also very proud of such strong growth this year by so many schools across the district, our children are learning more and doing more rigorous work. Houston has a reason to be proud of this progress,” Saavedra said.
