West University Place City Manager Chris Peifer submitted his budget proposal to City Council at a Saturday workshop at the end of September — and there was little to raise eyebrows, with the tax rate holding steady at 31.6 cents for each $100 of assessed property value.
The proposed budget is $28,791,627, a $519,000 increase over this fiscal year’s budget.
Some $223,000 of that is the result of the West U Parks & Recreation Department terminating the use of outside contractors for swim lessons, which is expected to be offset by revenues from bringing the lessons in-house.
That would make the net budget increase about $293,000.
Hurricane Harvey dealt only a glancing blow to the city’s tax roll. Harris County’s final tally of West University’s appraised property value came in at $6,311,024,947, down only about $90,000 from last year.
