Former Bellaire HS Principal Myrtle Lee Nelson is turning 100 in November, and there are several ways emerging to honor the educator who led the campus from 1983-90 after filling a number of positions there starting in 1959.
A scholarship in her name for a graduating senior is accepting contributions, as it has for more than 30 years. Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Myrtle Lee Nelson Scholarship Fund through the Greater Houston Community Foundation at https://ghcf.org/donate/
The volunteer committee managing the scholarship is also looking for the 31 recipients of the scholarship. They are encouraged to contact Janet Pate through Facebook at facebook.com/janet.pate.9883.
Finally, former students and parents and those in the community are encouraged to send Nelson a birthday greeting through her Facebook account at facebook.com/myrt.nelsonhughes.
