The Houston Christian High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders recently raised $1,600 to benefit the fight against breast cancer through their “Cheer for a Cure” effort.
The cheerleaders held “Cheer for the Cure” during two football games in October as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The cheer squads raised $800 for The Methodist Hospital Research Fund in memory of Emily Herrmann, and $800 for The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in honor of Sherry Oradat’s ongoing fight against the disease.
Herrmann’s daughter Suzann serves as a mascot for the school; Oradat’s daughter Ashley is a varsity cheerleader.
During halftime at Houston Christian High’s football game against Beaumont Monsignor Kelly High School, the cheerleaders presented their donations to Paula Walter, representing The Methodist Hospital, and to Patrick Mulvey, vice president for development at M.D. Anderson Hospital.
Taking part in the “Cheer for a Cure” effort were varsity cheerleaders Sarah Corder, Rebecca Driver, Hannah Holmes, Becca Langston, Ashley Oradat, Amber Whitaker, Paige Adams, Bryce Dixon, Lindsey Flesch, Hayley Short, Laura Valby, Shelby Corder, Rachel Driver, Brooke Fritcher, Emma Loo, Kennedy Meek, Angela Pidala, Blakely Smith, Courtney Smith and Ricky Wolfe.
The junior varsity cheer squad included Janie Bailliet, Amanda Brock, Lauren Lewellen, Morgan Malouf, Ashley Richards, and Katrina Schmid.
