The fourth annual ‘Howl-O-Ween’ dog parade and costume contest in taking place on Saturday, Oct. 16 to raise money for the Officer Lucy Dog Park.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Evergreen Park parking area and will go south down Newcastle Trail to Edith Street and will conclude at Officer Lucy Dog Park. The event will end at 10 a.m.
Prizes include categories for Best Fright Costume and Best in Show for both large and small dogs. There is also a prize for Best Owner/Pet/Group Costume. Prizes will be awarded at the Pet Expo at 9:30 a.m.
“When we started this project we wanted to have a special day for our pets,” parade creator Rachel Veldman said. “Each year it’s been a little bigger and a lot more fun.”
Participants are asked to register their dogs by Oct. 14 at the Bellaire Parks and Recreation Center, 5125 Laurel. It costs $10 to participate.
Registration is limited to the first 50 dogs. All owners must show proof of a dog license and current vaccinations. For more information, call 713-662-8280.
