Huffington Park, 6204 College St., will close next Monday (May 17), but for the best possible reason — a makeover that will add a play structure, shade arbor, and game and picnic tables to the 25-year-old facility.
Here’s how the project, which was approved in February, is described in a news release from the city:
One of the biggest improvements to the park will be replacing the existing play structure with a new ship play system and seahorse rider in a newly expanded artificial turf area that will include shaded sections.
Improvements also include removing the decomposed granite path and replacing it with a concrete sidewalk. The new path and existing sidewalk will be rubber capped to allow smooth travel for anyone walking or pushing a stroller.
Other new features include, two – Expression Swings, new fencing, a drinking fountain with a bottle filler feature, and refreshing of the light poles.
The Parks and Recreation Department worked with a Citizen Group, Parks and Recreation Board and Friends of West University Parks Fund on the proposed improvements and City Council approved the concept Feb. 22.
