Iranian Writer To Discuss New Book At Baker Institute Nov. 3

Writer Hooman Majd will explain the complexities of his native Iran in a Nov. 3 lecture at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
Majd will discuss his new book, “When the Ayatollah Begs to Differ: The Paradox of Modern Iran.” The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at Baker Hall on the Rice University campus, 6100 Main St.
Majd is an author based in New York. He has written for GQ, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The New York Observer and Salon; he is also a contributing editor at Interview.
The grandson of an ayatollah, Majd was born in Tehran, Iran, but has spent most of his life in the U.S. He often writes on Iranian affairs and travels regularly to Iran. Additionally, he has written about his experiences serving as an adviser and translator for two Iranian presidents, Mohammad Khatami and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on their trips to the United States and the United Nations.
