The varsity cross country team at Incarnate Word Academy placed second place in the recent TAPPS 3-5A District Meet against St. Agnes, Duchesne, Houston Christian and St. Pius X held at Buffalo Bayou.
Senior Bethany Hamilton placed second in district among single runners. Varsity team members include senior Amanda Guiterrez, sophomore Briana Faustino, senior Chloe Jester and freshman Laken Carleton.
The junior varsity team also earned the second place plaque against St. Agnes, St. Pius X, Houston Christian, Duchesne with senior Sarah Masters earning a third place medal, junior Jada Davis earning fifth place, and senior Allison Schimelpfening earning sixth place. Sophomore Regina Masters, freshman Taylor Gillepse, sophomore Ariel Cottingham and senior Katie Sanchez were also recognized with medals for outstanding performances.
Ten of the IWA runners will continue competing in the state meet in Waco, Texas on Oct. 18. These runners are: senior Bethany Hamilton, senior Amanda Gutierrez, sophomore Briana Faustino, freshman Laken Carlton, senior Sarah Masters, sophomore Regina Masters, junior Jada Davis, senior Allison Schimelpfening, freshman Taylor Gillespie, and sophomore Arrielle Cottingham.
