JUST IN: First West U election results show challengers leading

Former Mayor Susan Sample has taken a narrow, 60-vote lead in early and mail-in votes in the West University Place general election, and the three candidates on her slate are leading in the race for four council seats, with an incumbent currently in fourth position.

Here are the unofficial totals, as reported by Harris County:

Kevin Trautner 1,148 48.73%
Total 2,356

John Montgomery, Melanie Bell and Shannon Carroll, on a slate to return the city’s $125,000 youth sports subsidy, are 1-2-3 in the results, with incumbent John Barnes narrowly ahead of Sam Parikh for the fourth seat.
