The city of West University will hold its final public design meeting on the massive Buffalo Speedway roadway and drainage project from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday (March 4) at the Community Center auditorium, 6104 Auden St.
City staff and engineers will present the plans and listen to feedback. Anyone who can’t attend but wishes to comment can do so by emailing buffalospeedway@westutx.gov by March 19. Updated information on the plans will be available following the meeting at the dedicated webpage for the project, westutx.gov/buffalodesign.
Key components of the Buffalo Speedway Reconstruction Project include:
- Removal and replacement of the roadway pavement between Bissonnet Street and West Holcombe Boulevard.
- Installation of box culverts to improve drainage from Bissonnet Street to south of West Holcombe Boulevard to connect to the Poor Farm Ditch.
- Replacement of traffic signals at Rice Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, and University Boulevard intersections.
- Additional enhancements
After a review and adjustment, West U will send the final design to the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) by June, with the project going out to bid afterward, and construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021. Completion is expected to take about two years.
