Today is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 2 general election.

Today is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 2 general election.

All voter register applications must be turned in to a voter registration office by 4:45 p.m. today, or application forms must be in the mail early enough to be postmarked no later than today.

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Leo Vasquez said the election will be important to Bellaire area residents.

“Although this not a presidential election year, we will again be voting for the governor, numerous other statewide officials, legislators, judges and local officials, including the Harris County judge,” Vasquez said.

Prospective voters can obtain a voter registration application at any tax office location, post office, library or city hall.

To download an application in English, Spanish or Vietnamese, visit www.hcvoter.net.

Vasquez also encouraged voters to take advantage of early voting.

“Once you are registered, plan to get an early start. Early voting will be conducted Oct. 18-29 at 37 locations around the county,” Vasquez said.

Anyone previously registered to vote who has not moved or changed their name since the last election remains registered and does not need to file any additional paperwork.

In order to be eligible to vote, a person must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the county in which they are registering and be 18 years old by election day.

Yes, but does it do any good? Some think it only encourages the less desirables.
