With another 175 ballots counted as of 10 p.m., just 29 votes separates former Mayor Susan Sample and current Councilmember/Mayor Pro Tem Kevin Trautner in their bids to become West University Place’s new mayor. Sample was leading by 60 votes when the first batch of mail-in and early ballots was counted.
The totals are shifting, as well, among the nine candidates seeking four City Council positions, with John Montgomery, Melanie Bell, incumbent John Barnes and Sam Parikh now the top vote-getters. Yet only two votes separate Parikh from Shannon Carroll.
