The West University Place City Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday discuss health, dental and life insurance proposals and to meet in executive session to discuss the duties of the city secretary. This was the first week for new city secretary Thelma Lenz. Council will meet in the conference room at the municipal building, 3800 University Blvd.
The regular council session at 6:30 in council chambers Monday may mark the beginning of the end of the 3936 Marlowe saga, a property that was involved in a four-year legal battle between the owner and the city due to zoning ordinance issues.
The house has been torn town, and the city owns the property. Council will consider Monday declaring the land “surplus property,” a requirement for the land to be sold. The lawsuit between the owner of the property and the city was settled in February, and the city bought the land for market value.
“The city hopes to recover, as much as possible, our out of pocket expenses associated with the property,” said City Manager Michael Ross.
Council will also consider the appointment of Debora Connelly to the Friends of West University Place Parks Fund Board.
Both items were on council’s previous agenda, but the meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum.
It is expected that some speakers may attend the meeting to discuss municipal and industrial waste water wells during the public comment section.
Council will also hear the city manager’s report.
