Houston METRO has announced that it will be operating limited service in the wake of Hurricane Ike. For Monday, Sept 15, the following routes will be in service:
• 1 Hospital
• 2 Bellaire
• 25 Richmond turning back at Rogerdale
• 82 Westheimer
• Main Street Red Line - Buses will follow the METRORail Red Line route.
• 20 Long Point
• 50 Heights/Harrisburg
• 8 South Main
• 40 Telephone/Pecore to the Eastwood Transit Center
• 56 Airline
• 65 Bissonnet
• 163 Fondren
METRO said these routes were deemed priority routes because they provide access to hospitals, grocery stores and employment locations. Additionally, METRO will not be charging fares for the first few days of service after the storm.
Buses will not follow normal schedules but will operate on a frequency of every 20 minutes. For safety, buses will be stopping at every intersection on their route.
Service hours will be 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. to comply with the city’s curfew.
In the Texas Medical Center METRO will be operating the TMC Red Shuttle from Smith Lands to the Texas Medical Center on a normal schedule.
METRO will also be providing Park & Ride service to the Texas Medical Center only, from the West Loop Park & Ride and South Point Park & Ride. Buses will make two runs in the morning, 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., and two runs in the evening at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
All HOV lanes will be closed to general traffic to keep the lanes open for emergency use.
METROLift is operating for medical appointments only. To schedule a ride, METROLift patrons should call 713-225-6716.
This level of service will be adjusted throughout the week as conditions warrant and METRO will announced changes to keep riders informed.
METRO will also continue to provide emergency rescue help as requested by local agencies. Since Thursday, METRO has evacuated and rescued more than 1,000 people.
METRO offices will be closed to the public on Monday. Only senior management and requested staff should report to work.
