Missing Rice University Student Matthew Wilson was found last night on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley.
The Berkley Police Department notified Rice University late last night that Wilson was found in Dwinelle Hall on campus, and was detained as a possible theft suspect. As of the last update from BPD, Wilson was being interviewed concerning his whereabouts the last eight months and the theft investigation.
Wilson was a 21-year-old junior majoring in computer science at Rice when he disappeared Dec. 14, after withdrawing a total of $500 from automatic teller machines. He was reported missing by his roommate on Dec. 18.
In June, Wilson’s car was found on a residential street in West Berkeley, California. It had been towed as an abandoned vehicle.
“We’re very happy and relieved to hear that Matthew is alive,” said Rice University Police Chief Bill Taylor, who notified Wilson’s mother about the news from Berkeley.
