When the West U. resident saw a tow truck carrying a car that looked just like his, he called police. The car was supposed to be parked in front of his house, where he had left it.
Police in West University Place investigated the supposed car theft on Feb. 8, but they discovered the actual events were far less sinister. Officers determined the tow truck driver had picked up the resident’s vehicle on mistake, and it wasn’t stolen at all.
However, West U. police found a real stolen car a few days later. On Feb. 12, an officer pulled the car over in the 2500 block of University Boulevard for a license plate violation. The vehicle was stolen from Pasadena, and the driver had a suspended license.
Two residents in West U. reported on Feb. 11 that thieves stole parts of their cars — The wheels and tires. A resident of the 6000 block of Wakeforest Street called police around 4:30 a.m., and the responding officer found the victim’s vehicle on blocks with the driver’s side wheels missing. Then around 8 a.m. another resident of the 2700 block of Lafayette called police because someone had stolen his front and rear tires overnight.
