New City Secretary Glad To Be Back In West U.

Thelma Lenz, new city secretary for West University Place, has spent her first day on the job reorganizing her office and getting to know new computer systems, and says she is glad to be back in the city she left 10 years ago.
Lenz was the administrative secretary under former City Manager Sherman Yehl, and left in 1998 to take a position as deputy city secretary in Missouri City, where she lives.
“It was close to home, and my children were young,” said Lenz. Her children are now college students, and Lenz said she learned as much as she could learn as deputy city secretary, and earned her certification.
“It was time for me to spread out and become a city secretary,” said Lenz. “With kids in college it was just the right time to do it. I needed more of a challenge, and this is challenging.”
While some of the computer programs are a little different, Lenz said she is adjusting.
“I am having a good time and really enjoying it,” said Lenz. “Everyone is no nice and very helpful. It is very much a team atmosphere.”
