After two years out of office sitting out term limits, Susan Sample was re-elected as West University Place mayor Saturday (May 1), along with three council candidates who, along with her, were backed by political action committees seeking to restore a taxpayer subsidy to youth sports that had been removed by the current council.
Sample beat incumbent Mayor Pro Tem/Councilmember Kevin Trautner by 124 votes out of 3,654 cast.
In the end, only one of the four incumbents who ran, Councilmember John Barnes, was returned to office, coming in fourth in the field of nine. John Montgomery was the top vote-getter for council, and if tradition is followed, will be chosen to serve as mayor pro tem.
Essentials/InstantNews will have more on the election results and reaction Sunday.
