Parker Elementary Hosts 30th Suzuki Workshop

January 26, 2009 by Bellaire Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Parker Elementary School will host the 30th Annual Suzuki Workshop Feb. 4, 5 and 6. Master Suzuki instructors from all over the country will instruct Parker cello and violin students. The workshop will conclude Feb. 6 with a concert involving more than 160 elementary strings players as well as their instructors. The concert will be held at Westbury Baptist church at 6:30 p.m.

“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and its variations are the backbone of every string student’s education in the Suzuki String program. By the time a student has graduated to middle school, he or she will have had the opportunity to hear the song more than 10,000 times. As a result, “Got Twinkles?” has been chosen as the theme for Parker’s 30th annual Suzuki Workshop.

Parker has funding assistance this year from the Texas Commission on the Arts. This mini-grant helps sustain the long-standing tradition of this workshop. Parker strings parents assist with transportation, lodging and entertainment of the clinicians during their time here in Houston.

Music lovers are invited to attend the 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 concert at Westbury Baptist Church, located at the corner of Hillcroft and Willowbend.
