Council will vote on approving the final Design Development Plans by Clark Condon Associates, Inc., for the Bellaire Town Square, which will combine Bellaire and Loftin parks, at their 7 p.m. regular meeting Dec. 5 at City Hall, 7008 S. Rice.
The Parks & Recreation Board has submitted a letter to council indicating their lack of support for the amended design for the pavilion – which was amended after council expressed a desire for the pavilion to be “trolley themed.”
“We found the original design to the compatible to the park, existing buildings, the flow of citizen activities and to fit the space and scale of Bellaire Town Scale,” reads the letter to council. “While all members of Parks Board acknowledge the effort of Clark Condon and the council’s desire for a “trolley” themed pavilion, we do not support this amended design.”
The overall design plan includes a central, open area, a multi-purpose stage/picnic pavilion, multiple walking paths, a special entry plaza with an interactive water feature and donor recognition, a playground and a skatepark.
The regular agenda includes the city manager’s report and the city’s finance report through Nov. 30.
Council will meet in closed executive session prior to the regular session to discuss possible property acquisition for future park expansion.
