Bellaire police are investigating a burglary of a business on April 1 in the 5900 block of the West Loop South. The owner of Count on Me told police that an unknown suspect had forced entry into the front door of the business, and then stole a $7,000 check that was stored in a strong box.
A man who attempted to forge a check at the Bank of Texas, in the 5300 block of Bellaire Blvd., was arrested on April 3. The manager of the bank called police and reported that one of his customer’s checks had been forged.The original check was made in the amount of $57.00 and was altered to $575.00.
Bellaire police also responded last week to two cases of shoplifting.
On April 3, a business owner called police and reported that a man stole some razors from his store. He gave police the suspect’s description and direction of travel. The business is located in the 5000 block of Bellaire Blvd.
Police arrested another shoplifting suspect the same day. A woman, who was found in possession of stolen items, was arrested just outside a store in the 5800 block of Bissonnet. The suspect, identified by by her name and date of birth, had a previous theft charges. She was taken into custody and charged with Class C Theft.
Four Bellaire police officers responded last week to a domestic disturbance in the 4800 block of Bellaire Blvd. A married couple were involved in a dispute over the deed to their home. Officers needed to use a language line for translation services because the man and woman spoke Mandarin Chinese, The Harris County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute either ot the two, because of “conflicting stories” and described the couple “mutual combatants.”
On Thursday, April 3, Bellaire police responded to a call about a hit-and-run accident, and stopped the driver of a Ford F150 who had been involved in the accident. Two officers who responded to the call were assisted by a Spanish-speaking officer, who administered a field sobriety test in Spanish. The driver of the truck was found to be intoxicated and was arrested.
Bellaire police last week also arrested five drivers in the city who were operating motor vehicles without valid drivers’ licenses. Several of those drivers also had no liability insurance.
On April 3, Bellaire police reported that a burglary of a motor vehicle happened in the 6500 block of S. Rice. A woman who had left her car unlocked reported that her purse had been stolen from the front passenger seat of her vehicle.
Bellaire police also are investigating the theft of an Apple Ipad that was stolen during Spring Break week at Episcopal High School. The person who reported the theft said it had been taken off his desk between March 14 and March 26.
Bellaire police last week arrested a man on a routine traffic stop last week, after an officer noticed a shotgun in the backseat of his vehicle. The shotgun’s serial number had been scratched and tampered with. The man was transported to the Bellaire jail on a charge of tampering with identification numbers.
