Police: Make Sure To Double Check Mr. Fix-Its

December 8, 2009 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Police are investigating a West U. senior’s claim that door-to-door home repair men may have scammed her of cash that she paid them for roof work and other repairs.
West University Place Lt. Charlie Deily said the woman has written multiple checks totaling about $68,000, but she has received “shoddy” work to her roof, home and yard. Police are still determining whether there is enough evidence to prosecute the suspects.
But Deily wants to warn other elderly residents to be careful.
“The scammers are back in the neighborhood targeting the elderly,” Deily said. “Make sure you really need the work, and if you’re going to need the work, go out and find the person yourself and make sure they have references.”
