UPDATED with photo of suspect, released by West U police Monday morning.

West University police took an armed 18-year-old into custody Sunday in connection with two incidents involving elderly females in which one woman was accosted inside a home and another was injured when she was slammed against a parked car as she tried to fight him off.

Nathan Britton has been charged with burglary of a habitation, injury to elderly, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to a statement from WUPD. Police said he had no adult criminal history.

Dispatch took a call from an elderly resident in the 2700 block of Barbara Lane shortly after 8:30 a.m. claiming an unknown man had forced his way into her home, overpowering her, after she had observed him walking up her driveway and inquired what he needed. According to the woman, she and the man engaged in a minor altercation inside the home before he left on foot. She was not injured.

A short time later, police received a call from the 6400 block of Wakeforest Street about a man with the same description who had approached another elderly female from behind, grabbing and striking her against a parked vehicle, causing minor injuries. According to a social media account from a woman identifying herself as the victim’s daughter, he “wrestled her into a parked car” and appeared to be trying to go through her jacket pockets “as she attempted to fight him off.”

“A neighbor heard her screaming for help, and when the garage door opened, the suspect let go and calmly walked away with his hands in his pockets,” she wrote.

Officers fanned out in the neighborhood and located the suspect, Britton, who was discovered to be in possession of a handgun and taken into custody without incident. The District Attorney accepted charges against him.
