Prepare for another weekend construction shutdown in West Loop-Southwest Freeway project

August 23, 2019 by Charlotte Aguilar

(Texas Dept. of Transportation)

More chaos starting at 5 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 24) as construction continues on the rebuilding of the West Loop/Southwest Freeway interchange.

The Texas Department of Transportation will close all northbound mainlanes of I-69 Southwest between Chimney Rock and Weslayan through 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 26).

Traffic will be detoured to the I-69 northbound connector ramp to I-610 southbound, exit Bellaire Blvd, U-turn at Bellaire Blvd. onto the I-610 Northbound Frontage Rd., turn right (east) onto Westpark Dr., continue on Westpark Dr. and turn left (North) at Weslayan St., then turn right (East) onto the I-69 Southwest northbound frontage road, and take the entrance ramp onto the I-69 northbound mainlanes.

Crews will be working on the foundations for the new I-610 West Loop southbound connector to I-69 Southwest Freeway northbound. Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider an alternate route. Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control.

The $259 million project is designed to enhance safety and improve mobility by widening the connector ramps to two lanes, increasing sight distances, and providing remedies to eliminate weaving.

Additional road closure information will be posted at www.houstontranstar.org and at www.HOU610at69.com, with updates @HOU610at69 and @TxDOTHouston on Twitter.
