The Bellaire City Council on Monday night gave the city’s Environmental and Sustainability Board the enthusiastic “go ahead” to pursue a joint/combined annual Recycles Fest with the city of West University Place.

Bill Stone, the chairman of Bellaire’s board, said members of West U’s Recycling and Solid Waste Reduction Board have expressed interest in a joint event that would alternate locations between the two cities.

“We just want your blessing so we can do this,” Stone said. “They are excited about it. We are excited about it.”

Councilman Jim Avioli praised Bellaire’s board for their efforts to promote recycling in the city.

“This group works very hard,” Avioli said. “This is their 5th annual event.”

Stone said the groups are hoping to co-host the event on Nov. 1, 2014.
