Reopening of Rice Boulevard At Kirby Expected Next Week

June 27, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Contractors for the City of Houston have completed the installation of storm water boxes on the west side of Kirby Drive, terminating approximately 100 feet south of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Robinhood Street. These storm water boxes have also received their post-installation cleaning, and the transition work on these facilities is underway for the next segment. Paving of the east side travel lanes of Kirby Drive included in this segment of the project is completed to a point just south of the University Boulevard intersection. Paving on the west side lanes will continue in this coming week, with paving to occur between Rice Boulevard and Plumb Street.
The reopening of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Rice Boulevard is anticipated within the first part of the following week. This reopening of Rice Boulevard will occur coincidentally with the closure of the east side intersection of University Boulevard to facilitate the paving of the east side travel lanes of Kirby Drive through its intersection with University Boulevard.
The City of Houston anticipates bidding Segment 4 of this project, from just south of Kirby Drive’s intersection with Robinhood Street north past the city limits, very shortly.
The City of West University Place City Council has approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Houston for the placement of sidewalks on the west side of Kirby Drive. The agreement is now pending approval by the City of Houston’s City Council.
