Rice Athletes Donate Time At West U. Elementary

It is estimated that since school began more than 25 Rice University athletes have donated their time at West University Elementary School. West U. Elementary School had the opportunity to see these role models in their classroom reading, assisting with field day activities, signing autographs and discussing their experiences, sports and aspirations.

Most recently, Rice soccer players Jessica Ross and Shelley Wong read to 4th graders.

Suzanne Boue, parent of kindergartener Jason Boue and Rice University Assistant Athletic Director, has been assisting in scheduling and coordinating these volunteers.

“The students benefit by having the opportunity to interact with these well rounded role models and the volunteers benefit by being able to look outside themselves and focus on the needs others,” said Boue.
