Rice University and the Houston Rockets will be hosting an “AP Review Session” for HISD high school students on Sunday, April 3.
The review session will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Following the workshop, all participants will be served pizza and attend the game between the Houston Rockets and the Atlanta Hawks at 6 p.m.
Space is limited and only the first 100 HISD students to sign up will be accepted.
The cost is $15 and students will get to attend three breakout sessions from a list of 11 AP courses including biology, chemistry, calculus and world history, among others. The sessions will be taught by AP consultants, AP exam readers and/or AP test development committee members.
In the 2009-10 school year, more Houston students than ever attempted college-level AP courses and exams and a record number of students performed well enough to earn a qualifying score. It was the largest one-year increase in the history of HISD with 43 percent more students taking AP exams. More than 6,000 of those exams scored high enough to earn college credit, a 27 percent increase over the year before.
Earlier this year, HISD and the College Board announced a new partnership to increase the number of AP courses being offered, a minimum of 15 at each high school by next year, and to work toward creating prestigious AP and Pre-AP designations for HISD high schools and middle schools.
