For the eighth year in a row, the Rotary Club of Bellaire Southwest Houston will partner with Community National Bank (CNB) and VFW Post 5619, to salute U.S. veterans with a community blood drive.
This year’s drive will take place on Saturday, Nov.13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in front of CNB, 5123 Bellaire Blvd., where the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center mobile unit will be parked.
Donors may sign up online at www.giveblood.org (click ‘digital donor’ and use sponsor code J096) or may register by calling 713-255-1538.
VFW Post 5619 and Bellaire Rotary will have booths in the CNB Lobby where subscriptions to Rotary’s Flags-Over-Bellaire program will be available for patriotic flag placements at homes and businesses on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
“One blood donation can save at least three lives,” said Rotarian Donna Alley, who heads the blood drive and is CNB’s vice president of business development.
According to The Blood Center, one pint of blood is needed every 1.3 seconds, and the equivalent of more than 900 donations are used daily for patients in the Texas Gulf Coast region – from accident victims to cancer patients to premature babies.
Blood donors should be 17 or older and in good health without cold or flu symptoms. Persons with a history of certain chronic illnesses, such as hepatitis, kidney disease, coronary heart disease, internal cancer requiring surgery, or uncontrolled diabetes are permanently deferred. Valid photo ID must be presented prior to donation.
