Service of the Longest Night

November 26, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will have a Service of the Longest Night at 6 p.m. Monday, December 22, in the Chapel.

The Service of the Longest Night is a quiet, meditative worship experience that provides space and time to acknowledge the sadness and concern that may be present even in the midst of the celebration of the season. This service is held on or near the night of the Winter Solstice because, as the longest night of the year, it has the least daylight and the most darkness.

Following this service, St. Paul’s Labyrinth will be available through Christmas Eve for prayer and meditation. It will be in the Activity Center on the second floor of the Sanctuary building.

At 5501 Main Street, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is in the modified English Gothic structure on the corner of Main and Binz/Bissonnet, across from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The church is within one block of both Museum District MetroRail stops, and free parking is available in two lots across Fannin Street from the church. Website: www.stpaulshouston.org
