The city of Bellaire is looking for a few good men and women — 20, to be exact — for its “bootcamp edition” of the Bellaire Citizens Academy, to explore the inner workings of city government.
The interactive five-week program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 30 in different city departments, with two Saturday field trips. Only 20 slots are available on a first-come basis and may be reserved with Raquel Porras at 713-662-8276 or rporras@bellairetx.gov.
“This year we revamped the program to include a more immersive experience,” according to a statement from the city. “You get an inside look at city facilities, equipment and meet the leadership behind all of our city services.”

The goal is create “empowered and engaged” residents, and Bellaire’s citizens academy programs — which include a public safety version — are designed to help train potential volunteers for the city’s various boards and commissions and elective office on City Council.
