Your purchases for youngsters may be a bit different — some nicer pajamas instead of polos and khakis, for instance, a couple flash drives instead of notebooks, and a few items to dress up your Zoom background — but there are abundant choices for savings starting today (Friday, Aug. 7) and running through Sunday at the annual “fall” state tax-free weekend.
The event offers tax-free purchases on most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks.
The state comptroller’s office, which manages the regulations, is urging safe practices while shopping, but has made accommodations to encourage other forms of socially distanced buying.
During the Tax-Free Weekend, you can buy qualifying items online or by telephone, mail, custom order or any other means tax-free, when either:
- the item is both delivered, and paid for, by the customer during the exemption period; or
- the customer orders and pays for the item, and the seller accepts the order during the tax-free weekend for immediate shipment, even if delivery is made after the exemption period ends.
A list of acceptable items and regulations is available here.
