Students Encouraged To Join HISD Millionaire Club

May 29, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The Houston Independent School District has partnered with the Houston Public Library to encourage students to accept the challenge of reading five books within their Lexile range (50 points above and 100 below their Lexile measure on either TAKS or Stanford 10).
Students who meet the challenge will become members of the HISD Millionaire Club, and are eligible for prizes when school starts in the fall. Students who read more than 10 books and join the Houston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will be eligible for prizes.
Students must register for the Summer Reading Club online at https://summer.hpl.lib.tx.us/evanced/sr/homepage.asp. Certificates and flyers are available at any Houston Public Library, and students should write down the titles of the books they have read on the back of the certificate. In August, students should turn in their certificate, signed by a parent, to their school librarian for prizes.
Prizes include a Millionaire Club T-shirt, a buy one/ get one free all-day pass to the Downtown Aquarium and a chance to win two tickets to the Houston Dynamo soccer game on Sept. 20.
