Houston Independent School District’s new superintendent has called upon a trusted colleague to fill a position that oversees academics in all Houston-area schools, including Lamar High School, Pershing Middle School and West University Elementary.
Charles “Chuck” Morris started on Monday as HISD’s new chief academic officer alongside Superintendent Terry Grier. Morris also worked with Grier as his chief of staff in the Guilford County School District in North Carolina and as his deputy superintendent in the San Diego Unified School District in California.
Morris brings more than 30 years of experience, knowledge and success in education and private consulting, according to a statement. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
“I have had the privilege of working with Chuck in two different school districts,” Grier said in the statement. “He is a people person who is passionate about improving the education of all children. Under his leadership in San Diego, test scores improved more in one year than in the previous three years combined.”
