Third HISD School Closed After Swine Flu Case Confirmed In Student

April 30, 2009 by Bellaire Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

Houston ISD has closed a third campus until further notice after a student at the school was confirmed as having the swine flu.

District officials announced the closure of Lyons Elementary, located at 800 Roxella in north Houston. The campus is located near Parker Road and the Hardy Toll Road.

Earlier today, the district announced the closure of Harvard Elementary and Hamilton Middle Schools after health officials wanted the district that two “probable, but not confirmed” cases of the illness had been found at the schools.

Both are located in the Heights area of Houston.

School officials did not say whether the suspected swine flu cases at Harvard and Hamilton were found in students or staff members.

Also closed is Bellaire’s Episcopal High School. School officials made the decision to close at least through this weekend after a 17-year-old student became the first person in the Houston area to be confirmed as having the swine flu.

The girl, a Fort Bend County resident, has since recovered.
