Topic Of Sunday Talk: Bipolar Disorder

The Children’s Museum of Houston this weekend will feature an author speaking about raising a child with mental health problems.

Cassandra Joubert
Cassandra Joubert will discuss her book Losing Control: Loving a Black Child with Bipolar Disorder, which chronicles her experience in figuring out her daughter’s diagnosis. It explains her difficulties in managing her child’s symptoms, the lack of social and emotional support and the struggles she faced. Included are medical perspectives to help explain the symptoms and treatments behind the disorder.
Joubert received her undergraduate degree in psychology and child development and she earned a Doctor of Science degree in maternal and child health. She has worked in the fields of children’s health, community planning, minority health, child advocacy, philanthropy and academia.
The event is sponsored by Mental Health America of Greater Houston. The Children’s Museum is located at 1500 Binz.
