The public is invited to honor Diane McLaughlan for her devotion to Bellaire at 3 p.m. today (Saturday, March 11), as a tree and plaque are dedicated in her memory.
The ceremony will take place at the Bellaire Library Green Space, 5111 Jessamine St., and is led by the Patrons for Bellaire Parks, of which McLaughlan was a board member.
The location is significant: McLaughlan was a tireless advocate for Bellaire parks and green spaces, the Friends of the Bellaire Library, and was an honored educator for 35 years — most of them at nearby Condit Elementary School. She was also active in the Bellaire Historical Society, Jogging Club, and served on the board of directors at Bellaire United Methodist Church.

The wife of longtime City Councilman Pat McLaughlan, she died at the age of 84 last Oct. 25 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
