With a large Gulf disturbance now a named tropical storm, both West University and Bellaire have issued alerts — and Bellaire has called off recycling and waste collection for Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Imelda is expected to hammer the area periodically through Thursday.

With street flooding a strong possibility, Bellaire is telling residents not to put out recyclables and trash that could clog drains and exacerbate any flooding. Items will be collected on residents’ next scheduled pickup day.

Questions or concerns for the city of Bellaire can be directed during business hours to 713-662-8222, or outside business hours to the non-emergency number at 713-662-0487.
